Halloween is now an enjoyable event celebrated in USA and other countries for centuries. The most popular tradition during Halloween is Trick-or-Treat and many people go out for Halloween parties.

  • 12 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 pinch celery salt
  • 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 2 drops green food coloring, or as needed
  • 1 (6 ounce) can sliced black olives, drained

Directions:

  1. Place all of the eggs into a large pot so they can rest on the bottom in a single layer. Fill with just enough cold water to cover the eggs. Bring to a boil, then cover, remove from the heat and let stand for about 15 minutes. Rinse under cold water or add some ice to the water and let the eggs cool completely. Peel and slice in half lengthwise.
  2. Remove the yolks from the eggs and place them in a bowl. Mix in the relish, mayonnaise, celery salt, mustard, and food coloring. Spoon this filling into the egg whites and place them on a serving tray. Round the top of the filling using the spoon. Place an olive slice on each yolk to create the center of the eye. Dab a tiny bit of mayonnaise in the center of the olive as a finishing touch.

Ingredients:

  • 200g bar white chocolate (supermarket own brand Belgian is good), broken into chunks
  • 4 medium-large, ripe bananas
  • 85g desiccated coconut (you won’t use it all)
  • handful dark chocolate drops

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, gently melt the chocolate either in the microwave – in short bursts on high or over a pan of simmering water (make sure the bowl isn’t touching the water). Set aside for a moment while you get the bananas ready.
  2. Peel the bananas, cut in half, and push a lolly stick into the middle of each piece. Spread the coconut out in a shallow bowl. Line a large baking tray with baking parchment, and make sure there is room for the tray in the freezer.
  3. Using a pastry brush, coat a banana half in chocolate, letting excess drip away. Sprinkle with plenty of the coconut until coated, then set it on the prepared sheet. Now add two chocolate eyes and a mouth, and if you like, cut a few little eyebrows from the chocolate drops too. Freeze the lollies for at least 4 hrs, and up to a week.

Brain Gelatin

Ingredients:

  • 2 (6 ounce) boxes gelatin, mix any flavor (peach or watermelon give the best color)
  • 1 3⁄4 cups boiling water
  • 3⁄4 cup cold water
  • 9 ounces fat-free evaporated milk (must be fat-free or it will curdle)

to make gray

  • 15 drops red food coloring
  • 15 drops green food coloring
  • 15 drops blue food coloring

Directions:

  1. Before each use, wash the mold with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge.
  2. Spray or smear the inside of the mold with a small amount of vegetable oil, then wipe out the excess.
  3. Put the gelatin mix in a large bowl and add the boiling water.
  4. Stir about two minutes until the mix is dissolved.
  5. Stir in the cold water.
  6. Stir in the evaporated milk and food coloring.
  7. Adjust coloring until it is the perfect pinkish-gray and stir.
  8. Pour the mixture in the brain mold, stopping about 1/4 inch from the top.
  9. Place the brain mold in a shallow bowl so it will sit level, and refrigerate overnight.
  10. To remove the brain, shake the mold gently until the gelatin loosens.
  11. Place a flat plate upside down over the open side of the mold, then flip the mold and the plate together.
  12. Lift the mold off, leaving the brain on the plate.

Dead Man’s Finger Sandwiches

Ingredients:

  • Thin sliced white bread, crusts removed
  • Soft margarine
  • Cream cheese or peanut butter
  • Almonds
  • Strawberry Jam

Directions:

  1. Gently flatten the slices of bread with a rolling pin to make them more pliable.
  2. Spread with a little margarine and some cream cheese or peanut butter.
  3. Roll up the sandwiches and make three indentations with a blunt knife to form the finger joints.
  4. Trim the ends of the fingers into a ‘V’ shape and stick an almond on to each tip with a little cream cheese to form the nails.
  5. Now for the gruesome bit—add a dollop of strawberry jam over the end of the finger for the blood!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package white cake mix (regular size)
  • 1/2 cup white baking chips
  • 1 cup vanilla frosting
  • 18 lollipop sticks
  • 1/2 pound white candy coating, coarsely chopped
  • Styrofoam block, optional
  • Black decorating gel

Directions:

  1. Prepare and bake cake mix batter according to package directions. Cool completely.
  2. Crumble cake into a large bowl. In a microwave, melt baking chips; stir until smooth. Stir in frosting until blended. Add to cake crumbs; mix well. Shape into 1-1/2-in. balls. Place on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Freeze for 2 hours or until firm.
  3. In a microwave, melt candy coating; stir until smooth. Dip one tip of lollipop sticks in coating; insert into balls. Dip balls in coating; allow excess to drip off. If desired, insert pops into Styrofoam to keep upright. Refrigerate until set. Decorate as desired with decorating gel. Yield: 1-1/2 dozen.
